Women's Healthcare Tips

Blog

Introduction

The concern of women’s health is a little different from those of men.

As a woman, you need to make smart, healthy choices for a lifestyle you want to live in order to feel and look healthy at any age. You do not want to visit your doctor every day to seek advice on how you can lead a healthy life, so, here are some of the tips you can follow as a woman, daily or regularly, to feel energetic and live a healthy lifestyle:

Eat a healthy diet

Having a diet with mostly natural foods is important. This diet basically means that you have more fresh fruits and vegetables and less processed foods.

Your food should be high in fiber, have whole grains and low-fat dairy as well. Studies have shown that you need 800-1500 mg of calcium daily to prevent osteoporosis. You should also avoid beverages and foods high in sugar, salt calories and fat.

In order to maintain a proper weight for your height, you should eat healthy and balanced foods. Being overweight can lead to illnesses such as obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure. Whenever you are hungry between meals, try healthy snacks—including raw vegetables such as broccoli, carrots, cucumbers or zucchini.

Exercise

Exercising for at least 30 minutes, five days a week—if not daily—will help you maintain a healthy weight and prevent heart disease. In general, aerobic exercises are good for women’s health, including swimming, cycling, jogging, running and dancing. Find one that you enjoy, find a routine and stick to it.

Avoiding risky habits

You should stay away from unhealthy habits or people who practice them. These include smoking cigarettes and drinking. You should drink alcohol in moderation if you can’t completely stop it.

Consuming one alcoholic drink a day is deemed safe by most women health studies. Minimizing these habits will go a long way in saving your liver and other internal body organs.

Managing stress

A woman will always deal with a lot of pressure and stress. Whether daughter, mother or grandmother, the stage of life doesn’t matter when it comes to stress. You should take a few minutes every day just to get your life back and relax. This is because your mental health is important for your general wellbeing.

Other ways that you can manage your stress include meditating, practicing yoga and exercising.

Be safe from the sun

The sun’s rays are very harmful and excessive exposure to it can lead to skin cancer, which can be fatal. If you are going outdoors for a few minutes, you should wear sunscreen with an SPF (sun protection factor) of at least 15. This is to protect you against skin cancer.

However, you should check regularly for any signs of skin cancer even though you have been wearing sunscreen. They include change in color, size, shape or feel of moles and birthmarks, or if there are any new pigmentations and red areas in your skin.

Check for breast cancer

Women in their 20s should start doing breast self-exams for any difference. If you notice any changes in your breast you should visit the doctor for examinations.

Women in their 40s and above, however, should receive an annual mammogram, as it is the most effective and accessible means of detecting cancer at early stages when it is treatable.

Get more sleep

Sleep is very important to every human being. When you notice that you get tired easily, have less of a concentration level or even having trouble getting out of bed, then you are not getting enough sleep.

Sleep needs may differ from one person to another one. Not getting enough sleep puts you at risk of psychological problems and heart disease.

See your doctor every year

If you are 21 years and above, you should check for cervical cancer by getting a Pap test. A Pap test and HPV test is necessary if you are between 30-65 years. If you are older than that and your doctor says that you are at low risk, then you can stop testing.

If you have a higher risk of STDs and you are sexually active, you should get tested yearly for gonorrhoea, Chlamydia and syphilis. Also take an HIV test at least once or regularly if you are at higher risk. Do not miss your yearly appointments as your doctor needs to examine you for potential infections, any need for contraception and sexual complaints that you may have.

Conclusion

The basics of women’s healthcare will remain the same even when age changes. Following a healthy diet and exercising regularly will help you maintain a healthy weight and improving your wellness in general.

Smoking and excessive drinking habits are risky habits to develop. You should be able to manage your stress level to reduce risks of heart attacks and high blood pressure.

Minimize your exposure to the sun and do not forget to get your beauty sleep. Having yearly appointments with your doctor is necessary for him/her to examine you for any kind of illnesses such as breast and cervical cancer and even STDs.

Following the above tips will help you live a healthy life in the coming years.
