The Influenza virus, or flu as you might know it, can easily turn from sick to serious or even become fatal. Anyone can get flu (even healthy people), and serious problems related to flu can happen at any age, but the population with the highest risk of complications include older adults, pregnant women, children, and people with chronic health conditions.
The best way to prevent a case of the flu is a yearly influenza vaccine or flu shot.
Why Do I Need One?
Besides protecting yourself from getting sick and protecting those around you from spreading the virus, the flu vaccine helps your body fight off influenza viruses, should you come into contact with it. Not just that, but many other viruses can cause the flu. Flu vaccines are reviewed and updated yearly to ensure the vaccine you receive is going after the most common strand of influenza
Are there side effects to a flu shot?
It’s important to know that the flu vaccine cannot cause influenza.
Although, mild side effects are possible, such as allergic reaction, fever, headaches, and tenderness in the arm where the shot was given. We should note serious side effects are extremely rare, though do occur.
You should visit the Emergency Room if you experience difficulty breathing, dizziness, a fast heartbeat or swelling in the face.
